For 40 years, Caladesi Island Connection, Inc. has been the bridge between mainland Dunedin and one of Florida’s most treasured natural escapes. If you’ve ever stepped onto Caladesi Island’s quiet shoreline or spent a day exploring its trails, chances are you arrived there thanks to the work of this long-standing family business.
Caladesi Island is only reachable by boat, and that challenge is exactly what sparked the company’s beginning. Founder Phil Henderson was granted a contract by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks, to provide ferry service to this one-of-a-kind destination. He had two custom boats built by Stamas Yachts in Tarpon Springs, and from there the ferry service took shape—committed to connecting visitors and residents with a slice of untouched Florida beauty.
Today, Caladesi Island Connection provides daily service out of Honeymoon Island State Park, operating every single day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their team is known for dependability, consistency, and a deep sense of stewardship for the island experience. Even last year’s hurricanes— which caused significant damage to their boats and office — couldn’t keep them down for long. The moment the park’s rebuilt docks were cleared for use, the ferry was back on the water, resuming service after nearly ten months of storm-related closure.
What keeps this mission going is more than routine operations. After Phil’s passing six years ago, his wife Janet Henderson stepped in to run the business and continue the legacy they built together. Her leadership reflects the heart behind this operation: a dedication to providing an accessible way for people to visit and appreciate one of the finest historic beaches in the country.
Caladesi Island Connection offers more than transportation. They offer the chance to experience a natural treasure without barriers — an experience that shapes memories for locals and visitors alike. As a family-owned company, they remain committed to serving the Dunedin community for many years ahead.
